Online Notarizations

What exactly is remote online notarization and what are its benefits?

A remote online notarization (RON) is a notarial act performed remotely using two-way audio-visual technology. It is the online equivalent of an in-person, paper-based notarization where every part of the process is done via the Internet and uses electronic documents, signatures and notary seals.

Convenience and accessibility – Notarizations and loan signings can be completed at any time, not just during standard business hours.  Documents can be notarized and loan signings can be conducted from any location with an internet connection.  It is especially beneficial for those who have mobility issues, live in remote areas, or have busy schedules. Individuals living overseas find this service perfect for obtaining notarizations for US conducted business.

Security and fraud prevention – Online platforms use advanced methods of identity verification.  The entire notarization session is recorded via video. The combination of digital identity verification and session recording provides an additional layer of security against fraud.

Efficiency and cost savings – The entire process has a faster complete turnaround, significantly speeding up time-sensitive transactions compared to traditional methods that involve physical meetings, faxings and mailings.

How remote online notarizations work.

  • The signer/s personally appear before a remote notary in real time using audio-visual technology that is managed by an NJ state approved online platform.
  • At the beginning of the notarization the signer/s’ identities are verified.
  • After identity verification the notary will go through the document/s with the signer/s and signature/s and necessary information will be placed throughout.
  • Once the notarial act is complete the document/s are then available as a digital download to printed, saved or emailed.
